The adrenal steroid dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is the most prominent circulating steroid in humans and is also a precursor for sex steroids in peripheral tissues. In prostate, DHEA is a substrate for two major metabolic pathways that produce antagonistic sex steroids.
